Home Made Italian Pizza - Pizza Night with My Mom 🍕❤️

Some moments in life are more than just cooking - they turn into core memories.

This summer, while visiting my parents in Memmingen, I spent an evening in the kitchen with my mom making homemade pizza. And honestly, it was one of my favorite parts of the trip.

My mom is my best friend, so whenever we cook together it feels extra special. We laughed, chopped, kneaded, and created three beautiful pizzas with different toppings. Mine was like this:

  • Base: a garlicky yogurt mix (Skyr, garlic, remoulade sauce)

  • Toppings: red onion, smoked ham, corn, crunchy cornichons, and of course plenty of cheese

  • Finishing touch: fresh basil leaves scattered on top after baking 🌿

Simple, a little quirky, but oh-so-delicious.

The Dough - Easy & Foolproof

The secret to a perfect pizza night is the dough - and lucky for us, my mom has a stand mixer that makes the process super quick. But honestly, even by hand it’s worth it.

Here’s our go-to recipe:
  • 500 g pizza flour (we used rustic pizza flour)

  • 300 ml lukewarm water (add a splash more if the dough feels dry)

  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 7 g dried yeast

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

How to make it

  1. Mix the dry ingredients in a big bowl (keep salt away from the yeast at first).

  2. Add the olive oil and gradually pour in the lukewarm water, mixing until it comes together.

  3. Knead with a stand mixer or by hand on a floured cutting board for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough back in the bowl, lightly oil the top, cover with a clean towel, and let rise for 1 hour (or until doubled).

  5. Divide into 2–3 portions, let them rest for another 10 minutes, then roll out into thin rounds and add your toppings.

  6. Bake at 230°C for 8–10 minutes until golden and crisp.

That’s it - the perfect base for whatever toppings you love. 🧀🍅🥓🫒🌽

Cooking Together = Creating Memories

What I loved most about this evening wasn’t just the pizza (though, trust me, it was heavenly). It was cooking side by side with my mom, turning a simple dinner into laughter-filled memories I’ll cherish forever. 💛

I keep joking that I’ll convince her to join me here on the blog, because she’s an amazing cook, and her healthy recipes deserve to be shared here too. Maybe one day you’ll see a “Mom’s Corner” appear on the feed. Who knows?

For now, I’ll just say this: pizza night in Memmingen reminded me that food isn’t only about flavor, it’s about connection. And nothing connects quite like kneading dough, topping pizzas, and eating them straight out of the oven with someone you love. ❤️

Until the next fantastic recipe,

Tina 🍕
