Corfu Diaries - My Favorite Greek Town

Updated: Aug 21

Some places just feel like they were made for you. 🌊🍋

For me, Corfu is one of them.

It’s the kind of destination that’s so easy, so effortlessly charming, that it almost feels like cheating. You step off the plane at its tiny, adorable airport, and before you know it, a 15-minute walk brings you right to the coast. No stress, no endless transfers, just instant vacation mode.

The First Time - A Spontaneous Friendship Adventure

The first time I visited was a spur-of-the-moment plan with one of my best friends, who flew in from Frankfurt. We booked a hotel right by the beach, close to the Anemomylos Windmill, the Panagia Vlacherna (old monastery), and a cute little beach club.

Those four days were pure bliss - endless chats, long walks, cocktails by the sea, and way too many photos. We even rented a car to explore the other side of the island, where we stumbled upon a hidden cove… after what I can only describe as The Drive of Doom. 😆

Picture this: Google Maps deciding that the “shortest route” was through an old Greek hilltop village. We’re talking 20% incline, streets so narrow I had to fold in the mirrors, and the kind of starts where you have to pull the emergency brake just to avoid rolling back into someone’s house. A kind Greek motorcyclist ended up guiding us out, and somehow, we made it through with only 1 cm to spare on each side of the car. I left that day with a new title: Master Driver. 🚗😎

The Second Time - A Mother-Daughter Escape

This summer, I came back - this time with my mom. I wanted my annual sea holiday but wanted to keep it budget-friendly while building my tiny house.

We arrived late in the evening, so we officially started the trip the next morning with a cheese-loaded hotel breakfast (priorities, right?). Then we headed straight to the beach for a full day of sun and swimming. I’m a Cancer Sun and a Leo Rising - a summer child through and through, so being in the water feels like home to me. ♋️🦀

That night, sunkissed and happy, we strolled to Panagia Vlacherna and had dinner at my favorite seaside spot, Flisvos. We started with oysters (weird texture, fascinating experience), followed by calamari and my forever favorite, vongole pasta. We watched the sun set while planes swooped low over the water, and ended the night with a creamy crème brûlée. I highly recommend visiting this place when you're in Corfu.

Old Town, Ice Cream, and Floaties

The next day began with a walk up to the old town, matcha in hand, sight-seeing, boutique hopping, and buying matching summer dresses. On the way back, we grabbed ice cream from a little parlour we had fallen in love with the day before… and yes, we went there every single day after.

At the beach that afternoon, we couldn’t stop laughing at how much fun the kids were having with their floaties. Naturally, I went on a mission to find some - and scored two baby-sized ones from a tiny bodega for just €5. Best purchase ever. We floated like queens with our "duckies" (toucans??) for the rest of the trip, and yes, I brought them home with me. 😌

That evening, in our new dresses, we headed back to the old town for pizza night - live music, vibrant streets, and the magic of summer evenings in Greece.

Bella Vista, Paleokastritsa, and… a snake?

The next morning, I picked up the cutest little red Fiat 500 for our adventure day, I think this is by far the dreamiest holiday car. My mom is afraid of heights, but she bravely agreed to drive up to Bella Vista, a clifftop spot with a vintage café and unreal views. We had iced coffee and ginger lemonade overlooking the sea before heading to Paleokastritsa.

At Agios Spiridon beach, the water was crystal clear and the scenery breathtaking. We also popped into the Corfu Aquarium, where *plot twist* I ended up holding a snake. 🐍 Still not sure how that happened.

We ended the day with gyros and another sunset walk in the old town.

One Last Beach Day

Our final day was all about indulgence: beach club loungers, cocktails, and a spread of seaside snacks: calamari, fries, and pita with three kinds of dips.

Corfu has my heart - the warmth of its people, the food, the sea, the slow rhythm of life. I know I’ll be back, and next time, I’m going to hunt for even more hidden corners of this island paradise.

Until then - see you in the waves. 💙

Tina
